Song of the Wild

Song of the Wild

“In a [darkened] room…multiple cushions await below a screen on which Oregon artist Clay Dunklin is bathed in yellow light as he smears his face with goo. “Song of the Wild” is a video self-portrait that distorts his face with kaleidoscopic effects. Both the actual anointing and the virtual fragmenting of his face represent the fluidity of existence. The boundary between body and world is firm and yet slippery.”

- Mark Jenkins, The Washington Post

In April of 2020, Halcyon and community partners across DC organized a virtual city-wide Arts Community Day “to showcase the resilience and creativity of artists and practitioners through the DMV.” For this event, Song of the Wild was reimagined as a guided video meditation showing the power art has in our everyday lives, especially in times of uncertainty.
